11 Gold Medals for Malta Karate Team in UK Open Championships

38 athletes from La Salle Karate Club and Zebbug Karate Club representing the Malta Karate Federation aged between 6 and 17 years participated in the Cojinkai Karate Open Championships which were held on the 10th March 2019 in Penrith UK.     

Over 400 athletes from England, Malta, Scotland and Wales participated in both Kata (forms) and Kumite (sparring) where the Malta Team landed 11 Gold, 10 Silver and 20 Bronze.  National Coaches Joe Tanti, Josef Antonelli, Joseph Mizzi and Tyler Tanti who are also accredited by the World Karate Federation, accompanied the athletes. 

“This is an exceptional result with an impressive number of gold medals won in this tournament.  Our vision is to keep building on our promising athletes by providing the highest technical level in Karate training for both Kata and Kumite.  This whilst collaborating together with our technical staff and coaches to better support our athletes.  Moreover, the results are especially encouraging in the light of the current negotiations taking place to include Karate as part of the GSSE games in 2023. We would like to thank Sportmalta and MOC for their constant support.”  This was the comment of Sensei Jesmond Schembri, Technical Director of Malta Karate Federation.

38 l’atleta minn La Salle Karate Club u Zebbug Karate Club bl’eta’ bejn 6 u 17 il-sena irrapprezentaw lill-Malta Karate Federation ippartecipaw fil-kampjonati tal-karat li sehhew gewwa Penrith l’Ingilterra nhar il-Hadd 10 ta’ Marzu, 2019.

Il fuq minn 400 atleta mill-Ingilterra, Malta, l’Iskozja u Wales hadu sehem kemm fil-Kata kif ukoll fil-Kumite fejn it-Tim Malta kiseb 11 l’ewwel post, 10 it-tieni u 20 it-tielet. Il-kowces nazzjonali Joe Tanti, Josef Antonelli, Joseph Mizzi u Tyler Tanti li huma kwalifikati bhala kowcis mil-World Karate Federation, akkompannjaw lill-atleti.

“Dan huwa rizultat eccellenti fejn intrebhu ammont sostanzjali ta’midalji tad-deheb.  Il-vizjoni taghna hija illi nibqghu nibnu fuq l’atleti promittenti taghna billi nipprovdu l’ghola livell ta’ tahrig fil- Kata u fil-Kumite.  Dan waqt illi inkomplu nahdmu flimkien mal-istaff tekkniku u l-kowcis biex nghatu is-support mehtieg lill-atleti taghna.  Barra minn hekk dan ir-rizultat huwa wiehed importanti hafna specjalment fl-izviluppi li ghaddejjin bhalissa biex il-karate jigi nkluz fil loghob tal-pajjizi z-zaghar ta 2023. Nixtiequ nirringrazzjaw lil Sportmalta u lill-MOC ghas-support kontinwu.”  Dan kien il-kumment ta’ Sensei Jesmond Schembri, d-direttur tekniku tal-Malta Karate Federation.
