6 Gold Medals for Malta Karate Federation in San Marino

30 athletes from Malta Karate Federation aged between 13 and 19 took part in the 5th edition of The Small States of Europe Karate Championships which were held in San Marino on Friday 28th and Saturday 29th September 2018.

Athletes competed in both Kata (forms) and Kumite (sparring) winning a total of 6 Gold, 7 Silver and 15 Bronze.  Over 300 elite athletes with 489 entries from Andorra, Cyprus, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Montenegro, Monaco and San Marino took part in these championships placing Malta Team at 4th place overall.

Malta Team was accompanied by Audrey Zammit as HOD, Technical Director Jesmond Schembri, National Coaching Team Michelle Vella, Joe Tanti, Josef Antonelli and Joseph Mizzi and MKF Referees Anthony Zammit, Susan Zammit, Cristina Tonna and Elizabeth Grech.

Malta Karate Federation further consolidated its position within the Small States of Europe Karate Federation with the appointment of MKF Technical Director, Jesmond Schembri, to the SSEKF Technical Commission and the confirmation of MKF President, Kenneth Abela as SSEKF Treasurer.  Furthermore, Susan Zammit, Cristina Tonna and Elizabeth Grech are now official SSEKF Referees after successfully passing refereeing examination held in San Marino.

‘These outstanding results reflect the strong organization and setup behind a team of dedicated and promising athletes. We would like to thank Maltese Olympic Committee and SportMalta for their continuous support.’ These were the comments of MKF Technical Director Jesmond Schembri.

 30 atleta mill-Federazzjoni Maltija tal- Karate bl’etajiet ta’ bejn tlettax u dsatax-il sena hadu sehem fil-hames edizzjoni tal-Kampjonati tal-Karate tal-Istati iz-Zghar tal-Ewropa li saru gewwa San Marino nhar il-Gimgha 28 u s-Sibt 29 ta’ Settembru 2018.

L’atleti ippartecipaw fil-Kata (forom) kif ukoll fil-Kumite (glied) fejn kisbu 6 medalji tad-deheb, 7  tal-fidda u 15 tal-bronz.  Il-fuq minn 300 atleta b’489 entratura minn Andorra, Cipru, L-Islanda, Liechtenstein, Lussemburgu, Malta, Montenegro, Monaco u San Marino hadu sehem f’dawn il-kampjonati.

It- Tim ta’ Malta kien akkompanjat minn Audrey Zammit bhala HOD, mid-Direttur Tekniku Jesmond Schembri, mit-Tim tal-Kowcis Nazzjonali Michelle Vella, Joe Tanti, Josef Antonelli u Joseph Mizzi kif ukoll MKF Referees Anthony Zammit, Susan Zammit, Cristina Tonna u Elizabeth Grech.

Il- Federazzjoni Maltija tal- Karate kompliet issahhah il-pozizzjoni taghha gewwa il-Federazzjoni tal-Karate tal-Istati iz-Zghar tal-Ewropa  bil-hatra tad-Direttur Tekniku tal-MKF, Jesmond Schembri, bhala membru tal-Kummissjoni Teknika tal-SSEKF, kif ukoll bil-konferma tal-President tal-MKF, Kenneth Abela, bhala Tezorier. Success ukoll ghal Susan Zammit, Cristina Tonna u Elizabeth Grech illi lahqu Referees Ufficcjali tal-SSEKF.
