9 Gold Medals for Malta Team at Small States of Europe Karate Championships Iceland

22 athletes from Malta Karate Federation aged between 12 and 25 took part in the 6th edition of The Small States of Europe Karate Championships which were held in Reykjavik, Iceland, between 13th September and 15th September 2019. 

Athletes competed in both Kata (forms) and Kumite (sparring) winning a total of 9 Gold, 4 Silver and 12 Bronze medals.  212 elite athletes, in 330 entries, from Iceland, Cyprus, Liechetenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco and San Marino, took part in these championships.

Malta Team was accompanied by Audrey Zammit as HOD, MKF President Kenneth Abela, Technical Director Jesmond Schembri, National Coaching Team Michelle Vella, Tyler Tanti, Josef Antonelli and Joseph Mizzi and MKF Referees Anthony Zammit, Susan Zammit, Frankie Vella and Elizabeth Grech. ‘We are extremely pleased  to welcome Elizabeth Grech and Susan Zammit, who are now fully qualified SSEKF Referees, and Frankie Vella, now a fully qualified SSEKF judge in refereeing panel for Small States of Europe Karate Federation’ commented Anthony Zammit MKF Chief Refereeing Commissioner and member of the SSEKC Refereeing Commission.

‘Once again the Malta Team left a mark in what has become one very important annual event for Malta Karate Federation.  The results achieved are an outcome of top performance and preparation, both physically and mentally, on the part of our athletes, as well as the contribution of a group of highly dedicated coaches who strive to provide the best training opportunities.  This together with a vision to elevate the level of Karate in Malta in both kata and kumite and consolidate our position internationally.  We would like to thank Maltese Olympic Committee and SportMalta for their continuous support.’ These were the comments of MKF President Kenneth Abela.

9 Midalji tad-Deheb għat-Tim Malta fil-Kampjonati tal-Karate tal-Istati iż-Żgħar tal-Ewropa fl-Iżlanda

22 atleta mill-Federazzjoni Maltija tal-Karate bl-etajiet ta’ bejn tnax u ħamsa u għoxrin sena, ħadu sehem fis-sitt edizzjoni tal-Kampjonati tal-Karate tal-Istati iż-Żghar tal-Ewropa, li saru gewwa Reykjavic, l-Iżlanda bejn it-13 u l-15 ta’ Settembru 2019. 

L-atleti ippartecipaw fil-Kata (forom) kif ukoll fil-Kumite (ġlied), fejn kisbu 9 medalji tad-deheb, 4 tal-fidda u 12 tal-bronż.  212-il atleta mill-Iżlanda, Ċipru, Liechetenstein, Lussemburgu, Malta, Monaco u San Marino hadu sehem b’330 entratura f’dawn il-kampjonati.

It-Tim ta’ Malta kien akkompanjat minn Audrey Zammit bħala HOD, mill- President tal-MKF Kenneth Abela, mid-Direttur Tekniku Jesmond Schembri, mit-Tim tal-Kowċis Nazzjonali Michelle Vella, Tyler Tanti, Josef Antonelli u Joseph Mizzi, kif ukoll MKF Referis Anthony Zammit, Susan Zammit, Frankie Vella u Elizabeth Grech. ‘Huwa pjacir tagħna naraw lil Elizabeth Grech u Susan Zammit jilħqu referis ufficcjali tal-SSEKF, kif ukoll lil Frankie Vella jilħaq arbitru tal-SSEKF, ikkummenta Anthony Zammit Chief Referi tal-Malta Karate Federation kif ukoll membru tal-Kummissjoni tar-refereeing tal-Federazzjoni tal-Istati iż-Żghar tal- Ewropa.

‘Għal darb’oħra, it-Tim Malta ħalla marka f’wieħed mill-aktar avvenimenti importanti għall-Malta Karate Federation.  Ir-riżultati li nkisbu huma frott ta’ preparazzjoni kbira, kemm fiżika, kif ukoll mentali minn-naħa tal-atleti, kif ukoll kontribuzzjoni mill-aqwa ta’ tim sħiħ ta’ kowcis illi jipprovdu l-aħjar opportunitajiet ta’ taħrig.  Dan kollu flimkien ma, viżjoni biex jiġi elevat il-livell tal-Karate ġewwa pajjizna, kemm fil-kata, kif ukoll fil-kumite, biex b’hekk nikkonsolidaw il-posizzjoni tagħna fuq livell internazzjonali.  Nixtiequ nirringrazzjaw lill-MOC kif ukoll lil Sportmalta għas-support kontinwu tagħhom.,  Dan kien il-kumment tal-President tal-MKF Kenneth Abela.
