Ten medals for Malta Karate Federation athletes in Liege, Belgium.

25 athletes, aged between 7 and 13 years, took part in Liege Open Karate Championships held in Belgium on the 17th and 18th of November 2018.

Athletes from La Salle Karate Club, Mgarr Karate Club and Zebbug Karate Club, directly affiliated with the Malta Karate Federation, participated in kata, kumite and para karate categories, landing 2 gold, 3 silver and 5 bronze medals.

A total of 1200 athletes from Belgium, England, Germany, Ireland, Indonesia, Luxembourg, Malta and the Netherlands participated in this competition, which was of a high technical level.  Coaches Joe Tanti, Josef Antonelli, Joseph Mizzi and Alex Lombardi accompanied the athletes.

Nick Mercieca participated in the Para Karate category in Liege, thereby being the first athlete to represent the Malta Karate Federation in a Para Karate competition.

“Results achieved today give us great satisfaction on many levels.  We are grateful to all our athletes for showing determination and commitment and extremely proud of Nick who is a source of inspiration to us all. We would like to thank Sportmalta and MOC for their constant support.”  This was the comment of Kenneth Abela, President of Malta Karate Federation.

 

Għaxar midalji għal Malta Karate Federation ġewwa Liege, fil-Belġju.

25 atleta mill-Malta Karate Federation, bl-eta’ ta’ bejn 7 snin u 13-il-sena ipparteċipaw fil-kampjonati tal-karate li seħħew ġewwa Liege fil-Belġju nhar is-Sibt 17 u il-Ħadd 18 ta’ Novembru, 2018.

Atleti minn La Salle Karate Club, Mgarr Karate Club u Zebbug Karate Club, li għandhom affiljazzjoni diretta mal-Malta Karate Federation, kienu fost 1200 atleta li ħadu sehem fil-kata, fil-kumite, kif ukoll, għall-ewwel darba, fil-para karate.  Dawn l-atleti kisbu 2 midalji tad-deheb, 3 midalji tal-fidda u 5 midalji tal-bronż. L-atleti kienu akkompanjati mill-kowċis Joe Tanti, Josef Antonelli, Joseph Mizzi u Alex Lombardi.

Nick Mercieca ipparteċipa fil-kategorija tal-para karate biex b’hekk sar l-ewwel atleta li irrappreżenta lill-Malta Karate Federation f’kompetizzjoni tal-para karate.

“Ir-riżzultat li nkiseb illum huwa ta’ sodisfazzjon minn  diversi aspetti. Ninsabu kuntenti bil-prestazzjoni tal-atleti zgħar tagħna li urew perseveranza u dedikazzjoni, kif ukoll aħna kburin b’Nick Mercieca li huwa ta’ ispirazzjoni għalina ilkoll.  Nixtiequ nirringrazzjaw lil Sportmalta u lill-KOM għall-appoġġ kontinwu tagħhom.” Dan kien il-kumment ta’ Kenneth Abela, President tal-Malta Karate Federation.
